Media gets it WRONG… Kind of
I’m not an SEC media voter… so I don’t know what the ballots were like… and since Steve Spurrier wasn’t voting… I don’t think John Wall being left off the first team can be blamed on him. (even though I’d like to, it’s fun to blame Spurrier for anything)
But riddle me this, how can Kentucky be picked to win the league (I agree) and Patrick Patterson be picked as the preseason player of the year (I agree)… but John Wall be named to the second team?
Sure, he hasn’t played a game in college yet. But no one else seems to think that matters. National writers all over the place are calling him the nation’s best point guard, preseason national player of the year even. So how is it the media named him to the second team behind Devan Downey of South Carolina?
Downey is a nice player, don’t get me wrong. But here’s how the rest of the voting went. Second place behind Patterson for player of the year??? John Wall.
So if he’s the second best player in the conference… how is he not on the first team? It really is unbelievable to me. Doesn’t make sense at all.
By the way… were any of those voters at Big Blue Madness?? Have they seen Wall play?? They made THE WRONG CALL.
