Wall Situation
Everyone needs to just take a deep breath on this one. For those of you who were just waiting to pin something on Calipari… this ain’t it.
Brian Clifton, Wall’s former AAU coach, worked in the same capacity with a freshman at Duke. He’s been with other players. Sure, the NCAA may make an example out of Wall, but even that doesn’t appear it will have any real impact on the team this year.
At most… it looks like Wall will have to pay back some money and MIGHT miss just a few games… three or four.
When you see or hear “John Wall Eligibility Investigation” it sounds bad. This will not be that big of a deal at the end of the day… and in fact it’s something Kentucky’s been looking into for months.
Don’t you find it interesting that the story that came out yesterday involved both UK’s Wall and Mississippi State’s Renardo Sidney… both battling eligibility questions… yet Sidney was barely touched in the report… and the headline on the front of ESPN.com is ‘SEC Commish: UK vetting star recruit’s eligibility’
That’s still one of the headlines on the site right now… 3:00 on Friday afternoon. Still a headline despite all the college football, NFL football and championship series baseball going on.
Where’s the mention of Sidney? Where’s the mention of the Duke player who may also have been involved with Clifton?
It shows you how big UK basketball is and how polarizing a team can be with Calipari is your coach.
And once again, this isn’t even close to being on him…
